Playing with the Diana F+ a real Hipstomatic

I have a thing for plastic or toy/cheap 120 cameras. My first 120 camera was a Lubitel twin lens and at the time I got it for $23 I thought it was the coolest thing. I had never shot 120 before and that neg size was just awesome. Ever since then it has been hard for me to actually shoot 35mm. When the iPhone app Hipstomatic came out I was in love, I still am. I’d even say it is the camera I use the most. My families legacy is being shot with an iPhone and Hipstomatic.

For fathers day, my wife bought me a Diana F+. Every time I drop by Urban Outfitters, where they carry them, I hesitate about getting one. Well finally. I love it. So much fun and it is so much smoother than my Holga.

So, I finally got to go photograph a bit with this fun camera. A new model I am going to start working with let me take some snaps of her today. I shot one roll of Portra 400 and 1 roll of outdated Provia 400 Slide and had it cross processed. Love the look of X-process negs. Took them to Process one, a local lab and within 2 hours had the negatives back at my studio scanning.

They kind a look like I shot them with a Hipstomatic and the iPhone. 🙂

So awesome to know that photographers are still using these cameras. I have one in my closet that has 4 little lenses on it (totally cheap plastic); don’t know what it’s called, but I think I’ll give it a shot this weekend and try it out 🙂 So glad to see you’re using the blog!
